SuperKids

SuperKids is an exciting, tobacco education program of the American Lung Association of Mississippi. The SuperKids program has been around for over 30 years teaching students grades K-6 the dangers of tobacco use and the value of community service. The program utilizes schools and communities to raise awareness of lung disease. Funds raised will support research and educational programs in Mississippi.

Tobacco Education:
A tobacco education presentation is scheduled approximately two weeks before the SuperKids Field Day. A Lung Association representative will present a 30-minute talk that includes education on tobacco, asthma, importance of healthy lungs and bodies, and specific Lung Association programs. Depending on the size of your school, several talks may be scheduled. Incentive prizes will be displayed to motivate your students to fundraise for the Lung Association. A collection envelope, letter to parents and a list of incentives are given to the students to take home, which also includes all the program details.

Field Day:

Your school’s reward for participating in Superkids is the SuperKids Field Day! Students in grades K-6 can participate in field day. Multiple events can be scheduled on the same day for larger schools. Volunteers are needed to assist with the Field Day. The school will need to recruit approximately 20 volunteers to work the activities during each Field Day. Volunteers may be recruited the following ways: parents from homeroom classes, assistant teachers, high school students or community service organizations.

Incentive Prizes:
Students raising $20 or more will receive one to four incentive prizes, plus an additional grand prize is given to the student raising the most money in the school over $100. Depending on the size of your school, the Lung Association will distribute the incentive prizes the day before field day or during the Field Day event.

The American Lung Association of Mississippi handles most of the details for this event, which makes this program easy to implement for your staff and teachers.
