Lung disease is the leading preventable cause of death. While deaths from heart disease and cancer are decreasing, lung disease is on the rise. It is not only a killer; most lung disease is chronic — making each breath difficult.

Lung cancer and death rates are increasing, especially among women and have surpassed breast cancer, colon and testicular cancer combined.

- Asthma deaths have increased by 109% since 1979, and the number of Mississippians with asthma is projected to double in the next twenty years.

- 1 in 20 Mississippians has COPD.
